The start of a new year is a great time to get prepared.  Although we have had a quiet bushfire season, it is still extremely important that you are aware of the potential bushfire risk in your area, and that you are appropriately prepared in 2008.

As I mentioned last year, it is important you are prepared to stay and defend your property, or prepared to go early.

In 2008 you may also like to take the time to consider joining the Rural Fire Service.  The Rural Fire Service needs all types of people with a wide range of skills to keep brigades running and communities safe.

Although there are a range of operational roles within brigades, one of the major misconceptions about joining the Rural Fire Service is that you have to actively fight fires however, there are many other roles you can undertake including:

• Administration
• Incident Management
• Communication
• Catering and more.
