Who We Are

The State of Queensland is divided into seven QFRS Rural Operations regions which service a population of approximately 530,000.

Regional offices have a Regional Manager and oversee the management of the Areas within that region.  Area offices and staff are the focal point for the Rural Fire Service in any locality.  Each Area generally has an Area Training and Support Officer, Brigade Training and Support Officer and an administration officer.  The Regional Manager manages all rural operations in a region including planning, mitigation and response while the Area Director is responsible for the management of operations, services and support to brigades and rural communities within an area.

The Area Training and Support Officer's principle responsibility is the management of training within a designated geographical/industry based area.  The Brigade Training and Support Officer provides support and assistance to brigades for training, operations, resourcing and management and the Administration Officer provides administrative support to the abovementioned roles.  Together they supply information, advice and training to rural communities, industries and rural fire brigades in matters of rural fire management.

The Area office staff also support the extensive voluntary fire warden network which exists throughout Queensland, providing advice and educating communities in the safe use of fire.

From time to time it becomes necessary for the staff to assist in large fire situations, in co-ordinating incident management teams, locating resources and, in some instances, actually taking control of the management of the incident.
