Permits to Light Fire

In Queensland, the Rural Fire Service controls the use of fire by not allowing fires to be lit without a specific permit.  Lighting fires (apart from those that are exempt) without a permit is illegal.

Permit to Light Fire is required all year round for burning off or clearing fires, where an open fire is going to be bigger than two metres in any direction.  Permits are available from your local Fire Warden at no charge.

A person is considered to 'light a fire' if the person lights, maintains or uses the fire.  Therefore the fire must be extinguished before the permit expires.  Fires burning outside the times specified are unauthorised fires.
