Safety in Rural Areas
The Rural Fire Service actively promotes rural fire prevention and bushfire safety in an endeavour to increase public awareness of the responsibility for property owners to protect themselves and their assets from bushfire.
Your local volunteer Fire Warden and Rural Fire Brigade play an integral part in promoting fire safety and awareness throughout the local community. Resource materials focusing on protection, prevention and preparation are freely available through RFS Area Offices.
To minimise the risk of bushfire, the Rural Fire Service encourages all community members to take adequate precautions around their property, prior to the start of the bushfire season. For more information on how to protect your family and home, have a look at our new Prepare, Stay and Defend or Leave Early information - which is designed to help you make the right decision for your family.
You can also access the bushfire mitigation tool which, using a virtual house, presents you with guidelines on house design, construction and maintenace in a simple and easy to understand way.
